What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
With my experience tutoring younger family members, one of the most satisfying feelings in general is seeing the students' ongoing improvement throughout your tutoring. The improvements in grades can be very incremental, but as long as the students learn that with a little bit of focus they can improve and achieve the goals they put their mind towards and that mind set is important far outside of mathematics or sciences. Being able to show younger students that is what I find most enjoyable.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have strong problem solving skills which I think contributes to how well I can explain certain concepts to students. Given enough time I can generally think of multiple ways to approach the same problem which I find is very helpful as different students engage with the same concepts and topics differently. I am patient and I will always make sure that students fully understand how the problem works before moving on.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Be adaptable. Everyone learns differently and it is the tutor's job to be able to work with the different learning styles. I find that this is the most challenging to get the grasp of as it varies widely across all sorts of students, however, once a tutor learns how a student processes different problems and is able to cater their explanations; that is when tutoring yields the most improvement.

The content itself is not too particularly hard, we were able to make sure that Stephen had a foundationally good understanding of all of the things we were doing during the lesson. I also made sure that Stephen had a good understanding of what to do for the rest of the assignment so that he could more effortlessly approach the task by himself tomorrow. Otherwise Stephen mainly needs to put in more hours in order to finish off the assignment.
This assignment did show that Stephen needs to work on his time management to deal with assignments deadlines. Stephen should've had sufficient time to do this assignment since the last lesson till this one, however, he did not seem to partition his time as well as he could and now he still has a decent chunk of the assignment left and it is due tomorrow which is not ideal. This is something I will try to keep a note of a find ways to help Stephen improve with his time management for written assignments.

As an example, during the lesson I helped Stephen with collecting data and using the class data to find certain key statistics such as the mean median and mode of his classes' phone usage in hours for the week. Everything went quite smoothly, Stephen knew what was being discussed and he also got a chance to do it himself. The rest of the assignment is primarily the same thing just done over and over again but for different data so since we were able to show that Stephen is able to do the first part, he should also be able to make a start on the later parts of the assignment by himself.
One part of this assignment also involves Stephen examining the data and writing a report. This is not only putting his understanding of maths into practice but also how he reads, interpret and is able to properly present his findings regarding the data collected in a way that makes sense which is a skill set in of its own. I will have a further read of Stephen's assignment once he has done more next week making sure that he is answering the questions in the report in a way that makes sense and is what the teacher is looking for. As discussed in the lesson he could always ask me anything during the week if he runs into any questions while doing the assignment.

Stephen has a good intuitive understanding of this topic so far, a lot of the concepts he can just understand decently well without needing in depth explanations or lots of examples. Otherwise, the content is also quite straight forward, there are these types of tables that shows statistics in different styles and as long as Stephen is able to interpret them and understand their purpose, which he does, he is doing well.
Again we will keep practicing and practicing drilling certain key concepts that are important for this topic and certain key words such as mean, median and mode to make sure that Stephen is well prepared. Throughout practicing, we will make sure that Stephen is able to take productive notes and that he is able to recall on them if he needs to in the future as well.

We were able to cover what was taught in school and made sure that Stephen is not behind. By the end of the lesson Stephen had a good understanding of the key concepts, e.g., censuses and samples, mean, median, mode range etc... Stephen by the end was able to define all of these terms by himself and has a good understanding of it when applying that knowledge to questions.
Since this is the first lesson, there is not too much to comment on. It took a little bit of explanation but Stephen was able to get the hang of the content being taught relatively quickly. I do want to start focusing a lot more on helping Stephen take better notes both during our lessons as well as in class.
