What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I love the idea of being able to help others find as much joy in learning as I did - it doesn't always have to be meaningless, repetitive questions and solutions. Not only can I spend more time doing something I love, but I can also build strong relationships with my students as they get closer and closer to their goals.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
Raised amongst teachers, I have been immersed in a learning environment my entire life, and it has led to me gaining a deep understanding of the ins and outs of education. When my skills in different subjects are paired with empathy, efficient communication, optimism, I believe I can make the tutoring experience both academically and psychologically beneficial for the student. I am an extremely patient person and can explain different concepts in a variety of different ways, as I know that studying does not come as easily to some as it does others.
Most important things I can do for a student π
The most important thing would be to teach a student that studying shouldn't be a chore, and that giving it their all matters more than receiving a perfect grade. I understand that each student is different, and that not every approach will work for an individual, so it is essential that their tutor knows how to adapt to their needs while still making it an enjoyable experience.

About Lily
A Little Bit About Me
My name is Lily, and I am an 18-year-old Year 12 graduate who is currently studying Advanced Psychology at university. I've always been an avid reader and have had a strong passion for learning, and I believe these are two factors that played a large role in me receiving an ATAR of 97.35 and a Merit in English Literature.
Hands-On Classroom Experience
Having spent considerable time assisting in classrooms, Lily has developed practical experience working directly with students, especially those needing extra support. She has volunteered at a primary school where she assisted children with various tasks, contributing significantly to their learning experiences. Her nurturing approach and ability to adapt to different learning needs make her an excellent mentor for young learners transitioning through challenging subjects like maths and English.
Strong Interpersonal Skills
Beyond her academic prowess, Lily possesses strong interpersonal skills honed through years of customer service experience in hospitality. This background enhances her ability to connect with students from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they feel comfortable and supported during their tutoring sessions. Her organisational skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure are assets that enable her to create structured yet flexible learning environments tailored to each student''s needs.

Crystal still needs to work on writing out her working out. Although she is very capable of doing some things mentally, mistakes are more common in longer equations like these, and it can be hard to fix them without the written process. It also saves time in the long run.

The concept was grasped quite quickly, and, after a bit of practice, Crystal could complete the questions easily by following the same process. As her first introduction to pi, she did well in incorporating it into her calculations and predicting the results without a calculator.
I donβt think Crystal was very engaged in this lesson, most likely because we are nearing the end of the year. I will attempt to bring some more entertaining activities in the future.

This topic had been introduced in class, so Crystal was aware of all the different ways to analyse the data. I was very impressed that she knew how to find the median when there is an even amount of data points.
However, she did need reminders on some minor things, like ordering the numbers from smallest to largest when finding the median.
Crystal was engaged the whole time and could complete the statistical mathematics with ease.
Crystal was engaged the whole time and could complete the statistical mathematics with ease.
Although she is aware of the processes to find the mean/median/mode, she struggles at times to explain what they actually represent. We will do some more work on this next week.
