Jack was well prepared - he had written notes on his teachers recommendations for the test and completed much of the plan in class. We went through and checked what he had done against the rubric and compiled a list of ideas to include in each section to keep his thoughts organised.

Jack is doing well. I encourage him to continue to ask his teacher follow up questions if he feels unclear about their explanations (eg. graph formatting for this test) - but overall he seems to be engaging well in class. We also discussed that Jack wants to work on reading questions more carefully, so we will continue to focus on that, especially in the lead up to tests.

It was lovely to meet Jack, and to hear about his interest in biology. He did well with the new content - writing notes and asking questions when he wasn't sure about a concept. We discussed that Jack is going to complete some questions in his booklet that we will look through together next week.

Archie was focused and got through almost a whole practice exam. He had great knowledge of unit 1 content and used his notes well to find formulas and key concepts, which will help him to navigate his notes during the exam. He also showed his working, rather than doing calculations in his head which was great to see.

He made some small errors from rushing through some of the questions. To make sure this doesn't happen on the exam it will be important to do more practice and have a focused, patient mindset on the day. I would recommend that he does some more practice exam questions under timed conditions while slowing down, writing out each step and checking over his answers as he goes.

Archie completed all his assigned work for the chapter. This was a completely new topic that he hadn't covered in previous years, so I think it was a better challenge for him.

The skill of multiplying two matrices, particularly application questions involving variables and simultaneous equations, might need to be revised a few times to consolidate them fully.
