What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
For most of my schooling, if I didn’t understand content, instead of working harder and asking for help I typically decided that I just didn’t like that topic, only making it harder for myself. In year 12 I decided I was determined to learn to love the things I “hatedâ€, when I began to put in the work and actually went to seek help I finally started to enjoy learning. I remember the feeling of finally getting a concept I had struggled with for years and how accomplished and proud of myself I felt. I love that as a tutor I am able to make other students feel this way too and make learning fun.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Although I have not had professional experience tutoring in the past, I am a swim teacher and have had lots of experience teaching children of all different needs. From working with so many kids I have learnt that every student is different and responds differently to feedback / instructions. I am aware of how everyone’s brain works differently and that sometimes it isn’t the content that is hard for students to understand but instead the way in which it was explained, I believe I am more than capable of recognising this and finding new ways to explain old content for it to click for anyone.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to not only improve their understanding and comprehension of content but to also improve their confidence in themselves and bringing enjoyment to learning. In the past I have found some concepts hard to grasp and not only feeling like I didn’t know what to do but also seeing it when getting questions wrong, it made me question my own skills and whether I was actually “smart†or if I should just give up. I hope that as a tutor I am able to stop students feeling like their only option is to quit and that they can do it.
