What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Firstly, I love the sense of accomplishment that is shared by both the tutor and the student upon having tackled a difficult subject or something the student was struggling with. Furthermore, it is very satisfying to see an individual gain confidence in their abilities and, hence, feel less overwhelmed and hesitant towards school-related coursework. Specifically, I love seeing students build a sense of perseverance, through which they feel as though with a bit of help or focussed time, they can get to the answer regardless of how complex the issue is.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Two of my main strengths as a tutor are my patience and adaptability- I believe that everyone is capable of learning, and thus, in situations where a student is unable to grasp a concept easily, I stay calm and go through multiple angles without creating a sense of tension or a need to quickly move-on. Furthermore, I am a good listener; I stop and pay full attention to what the student is struggling with so that I can adapt the plan as needed. Thirdly, I am empathetic; learning can be overwhelming, and thus, I am good at de-escalating tension and taking a moment to reassure the student.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
One of the most important things a tutor can do is create a space free of judgment, as this will invite the student to feel comfortable and thus promote engagement and the voicing of questions regarding misunderstandings. The latter is essential to the progression of learning. Furthermore, I think it is very important to tailor teaching methods and timelines for each student to allow students to feel supported and understood.
