What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I have never actually tutored before however I have mentored in my past job. As I gained more and more experience within my refereeing capabilities I was given more responsibilities by my boss, one of which was training and mentoring newer staff on the court. Teaching them to make decisions and stick by them and how to handle conflict was all extremely rewarding as I saw them grow and flourish to be self-sufficient when the time came for them to start refereeing on their own. So, to summarise my answer would be to see people that I have helped become confident in themselves.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my biggest strength is the way I approach tutoring and mentoring. I come into it with an open mindset, recognising that effective tutoring is a two-way process. It’s not just about telling a student what to do and having them recite it back. I believe both the tutor and the student need to actively engage and work together toward a shared goal. By creating a space where the student feels heard and involved, I can support them in a way that’s more meaningful and productive.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is ask the student what they want to get out of tutoring. Every student has different goals, and a good tutor recognises that there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. By understanding those goals and regularly revisiting them, the tutor can tailor their teaching methods to suit the individual student, whether that means using visual aids, breaking down concepts step-by-step, or encouraging independent problem solving. It’s about building a strong foundation based on what actually works for that student, not just what works in theory.
