What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Currently working as a tutor, the aspect I enjoy most is seeing a students' growing confidence and enjoyment of learning as they gradually work toward their academic goals. Getting to play a part in that process especially when a difficult concept finally clicks is incredibly rewarding. I also appreciate the opportunity to make a meaningful, personal impact on a students learning experience, which I find is one of the most fulfilling parts of tutoring.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One of my key strengths as a tutor is my ability to adapt my teaching style to create a personalised learning experience that suits each students' individual learning style, ability, and pace. I'm also very patient and approachable, which helps students feel comfortable asking questions and creates a safe environment where they can make mistakes without fear. Additionally, I'm highly organised and prepared for each session, I plan lessons in advance and tailor them to each students' goals, strengths, and areas for improvement, as well as maintaining a fun and engaging learning atmosphere.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student is building their confidence and perseverance, encouraging them to believe in their own abilities. Tutoring transcends solely teaching content and explaining concepts, it's an experience that creates a supportive, safe and encouraging environment where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes. Tutoring also significantly helps students develop effective study habits and critical thinking skills, allowing them to not only master a difficult concept, but also flourish as independent, self-motivated learners.

It was great to see Layla starting to include form/structure techniques as well as critic quotes and context in her paragraphs! Another thing which was good to see was she is starting to expand more upon the effect of techniques in her analysis.
Something to work on could be ensuring she orders her examples in a way that creates more flow to ensure she maximises the effect of her argument.

Seeing Layla's prewritten paragraph on the image provided, I could see she had great structure and more than enough techniques and examples for a 4 marker which was good to see! As well as this, going through the rest of the texts, she was able to quickly identify techniques which is important for success in a short answer paper.
Something to work on, which many students struggle with, is timing in short answer papers - ensuring you stick to the length the mark indicates, having enough techniques that are also effective in communicating your thesis on the text, as well as ensuring you explain the EFFECT of the technique!

Layla's paragraph was very well written with carefully chosen evidence and effective analysis which was really good to see! She was consistent in tying back her analysis to her thesis which was great, and it was really good to see she included macro techniques as well.
Something to work on for future analysis is tying different examples together and using connectives like 'furthermore', 'moreover' or 'therefore' to create a flow to her argument.

Layla already has a very solid understanding of poetic techniques, and I can tell she is developing her own ideas on the poems overall meaning which was really great to see! Additionally, she was able to keep connecting her analysis to her overall argument throughout the poem which was very good.
Something to work on in future sessions is potentially making a bank of macro techniques (like form, structure, tone etc) and their effects, to ensure in her essays, she is utilising the most effective parts of the technique to emphasise her thesis.
