What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing students improve. Successfully helping someone to understand a difficult concept feels very rewarding!
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
As a university student, I have maintained strong learning skills that I enjoy sharing with others. I have some experience helping others to understand the content I have recently learned, using verbal/written explanations as well as diagrams and worked examples. I also remember what it was like to go through the current high school system, so I can relate to current students, and I have a good understanding of the subject material.
Most important things I can do for a student π
The most important things a tutor can do are:
1. Provide a safe and supportive environment where the student feels comfortable sharing their concerns. This helps to identify the studentβs preferred learning style and areas to focus on.
2. Give the student the tools they need to learn on their own. Instead of just giving solutions, a tutor should help the student develop problem solving skills that can be applied in many different situations.

- Understood simultaneous equations using both substitution and elimination after some practice - Could display data as a histogram and identify shape and modal class - Applied formulas correctly for compound interest and exchange rates - Correctly identified where to use Pythagoras' theorem and trig ratios - Good understanding of surface area calculations for a complex shape - Improved at transposing formulas
- Needed some help finding the first step in complex unfamiliar questions (what can we find using the given information?) - Still need to work on backchecking
- Improved at trig applications since last session, could identify formulas to use based on information provided - Consumer arithmetic: wages, prices, exchange ...
- Improved at trig applications since last session, could identify formulas to use based on information provided - Consumer arithmetic: wages, prices, exchange rates - Good understanding of scale factors in similar figures - Data analysis: calculating mean, median, IQR of dataset; identifying outliers
- Some careless mistakes, might need to emphasise backchecking more - Not very familiar with step and piecewise graphs - Still needs more practice with transposing formulas
- Good understanding of most concepts after some explanations + working through examples - Substituting values into formulas correctly
- Good understanding of most concepts after some explanations + working through examples - Substituting values into formulas correctly
- Transposing formulas: improved but still needs some work - Nuclear reactions: might need more work on mass defect and binding energy
