What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy connecting with students and seeing their confidence grow when they finally understand something that seemed difficult at first. During my time volunteering with Ain Society in Singapore, I helped kids with cancer with their homework and discovered how fulfilling it is to make learning a positive experience for someone. I also love helping my younger sister with her math homework, it reminds me how meaningful it is to guide someone and watch them succeed.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I would say my biggest strengths as a tutor are patience and empathy. I take time to understand where a student is struggling and explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them. I'm also good at encouraging students and keeping them motivated, which helps them stay engaged and enjoy learning rather than feeling pressured.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build the student's confidence and independence. It's not just about solving problems for them, but teaching them how to think critically so they can solve future problems on their own. A tutor should also create a safe and encouraging environment where the students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I believe that is how real learning happens

About Anushka
About My Studies
I’m a third-year Computer Science student at UNSW, originally from Singapore. I’m especially interested in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and hope to go into UI/UX design in the future. I enjoy learning how people interact with technology and how a good design can make systems easier and more enjoyable to use. One of my favourite courses has been Cybersecurity (COMP6441), which helped me build strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Studying computer science has taught me how to break down complex ideas and explain them clearly, which I find really helpful when tutoring.
About Me Outside Of Uni
Outside of uni, I’m a pretty creative person. I love playing the piano, painting, and dancing whenever I get the chance. I’m also a big fan of movies and TV shows, and I enjoy reading thriller novels in my free time. Some of my favourite moments are simple ones, like sunrise walks at Coogee, spending time with friends, or just relaxing after a long day.
A Bit More About Me
I’ve also trained in taekwondo and reached red belt with a black tip, which taught me discipline and persistence. I enjoy challenging myself and learning new things, whether it’s in academics or everyday life. As a tutor, I aim to be friendly, patient, and supportive, and I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.

Omar has developed a strong understanding of long division and multiplication and is becoming more confident with area and perimeter, specifically rectangles and squares.
Omar is still finding it difficult to remember the rules for all the different operations while solving fractions. More regular and consistent practice will help reinforce these concepts. It would also be beneficial for him to complete all of the homework, as this will help him remember the concepts and increase his confidence across all topics.

Omar was much more attentive throughout the class and showed that he can grasp new concepts very quickly. He also continued the habit of talking through his work out loud, which helps strengthen his understanding and identify his mistakes early on.
Although Omar understands concepts quickly during classes, he tends to forget them when they are not regularly practised. Consistent revision and completion of homework will help him remember in the long term. He is also beginning to forget some of his single digit multiplication times tables, so continued practice would be very beneficial.

Harvey was able to complete all of the homework without getting distracted and he was engaged for majority of the class. Using storys helped him stay focused and helped him stay motivated to complete the questions. Once he understood what a question was asking, he was able to apply the same method to similar questions, showing consistency in his approach.
A few times, Harvey relied on guessing rather than working through the question step by step. Continuing to encourage him to slow down and follow a clear method would help him. Reinforcing the importance of showing working and checking each step will also help him reduce mistakes.
Omar is always open about when he has doubts, which helps us address misunderstandings early on and keeps him engaged in the learning process.
Omar is always open about when he has doubts, which helps us address misunderstandings early on and keeps him engaged in the learning process.
Omar would benefit from consistently talking through each step aloud and writing all his working out rather than doing parts mentally. Memorising single digit multiplication tables will also make more complex topics like double and triple digit multiplication much easier and more accurate for him.
