In my perspective, a tutor must be able to properly assess the student's needs - whether they are struggling with eg multiplication, or understanding of algebra that make it hard for them to do harder questions, or even motivation or confidence issues, or comprehension problems, and to be able to adapt to these need/s of the students and improve their level. It is also crucial to not make work too easy for the student or too hard, but within their proximal zone of development. It is important for students to develop a positive attitude towards math and a concrete understanding of each topics.Tutoring students in 👦 👧

Sulaiman is starting to improve on his problem solving drastically. He was able to work on the last couple of questions independently - especially after I emphasised that he always needs to 1) put an equal sign 2) bring all the numbers down except for the section he solved in the equation , as well as the part he solved in the previous line , and 3) to do it in the order of BODMAS, from left to right. In the beginning I modelled and had a guided section with him, but afterwards he was very independent and got the questions correct. I set homework for him.
A few times he would sometimes put in the next line the solution to the small part of the equation - of the section he resolved in BODMAS, rather than bringing the whole equation down to the next line. But with practice and reminders he has been improving.
Sulaiman was able to work through progressively more challenging short division questions as the lesson progressed.

Sulaiman is still developing his understanding of multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10 and would benefit from further practice to strengthen this concept.
