What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Seeing my students engaged, properly understanding the logic behind maths and even enjoying the questions drives me more to help my students. Also seeing them improve in real time in their maths skills is internally rewarding.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am able to adapt to different levels and to different needs students may need, also given my teachers education & experience as a teacher's aide, and working with students with difficult backgrounds. Also as a teacher's aide and as a past lover of maths, I am able to also give feedback and give motivation to an average student so they can complete their understanding and reach their potential.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
In my perspective, a tutor must be able to properly assess the student's needs - whether they are struggling with eg multiplication, or understanding of algebra that make it hard for them to do harder questions, or even motivation or confidence issues, or comprehension problems, and to be able to adapt to these need/s of the students and improve their level. It is also crucial to not make work too easy for the student or too hard, but within their proximal zone of development. It is important for students to develop a positive attitude towards math and a concrete understanding of each topics.

Sulaiman is able to dissect questions better, where he writes down important clues and steps in his book and tries his best to understand the overall picture before answering what is needed. When he understands the questions and concepts properly, he grasps concepts quite quickly and is able to quickly apply to other questions. He is also practicing to lay out his working out neatly and orderly.
Although Sulaiman can be very focused on smaller details, he can forget the bigger picture of the questions and the important steps that lead to the final answer. I will try to improve his communication of reasoning more in future lessons as well.

Sulaiman showed good effort when solving time questions and became more confident with carrying values across units. He responded well to scaffolding, and was able to explain parts of his working and reasoning.
Will continue building independence when solving problems and encourage him to communicate his reasoning more clearly without assistance. Will practice his skill in applying logical thinking to unfamiliar problems, and practice his skills in layering his working out, one step at a time.

Sulaiman was very enthusiastic about learning angles and was highly engaged throughout the lesson. The practical activity involving turning his body to represent different angle sizes helped strengthen his conceptual understanding. He was able to identify and measure most common angles accurately and was resilient when working through more difficult reflex angle questions.
He needed a bit of practice in measuring reflex angles and more complex diagrams, as the protractor cannot measure past 180 degrees, thus requiring him to split the angles. We are also building speed and confidence with his 7x and 8x timetables.

Sulaiman demonstrated a solid understanding of prime and composite numbers and was able to follow the process of creating factor trees successfully. We saw how numbers could be broken down in different ways while still reaching the same result. His confidence improved as the lesson progressed from easier questions to more harder ones.
We will continue strengthening his multiplications, particularly with the 7x tables, to improve speed and accuracy, also when creating factor trees. May need more independent practice with larger numbers and identifying prime factors to help reinforce his understanding further.
