What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐Ÿ˜

I enjoy helping students understand concepts and overcome challenges not just academically, but also seeing their confidence in their abilities grow within themselves

My Strengths as Tutor ๐Ÿ’ช

I think my strengths are around finding creative ways to help students understand and learn concepts. I remember being in their position and at times would find it hard to get my head around a certain mathematical or scientific concept and having to find creative and abstract ways to help it click. Having that experience firsthand myself gives me the confidence that I can help students who might be in that same position. Another strength is my approachability and friendliness so that students feel comfortable asking for help.

Most important things I can do for a student ๐Ÿ…

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is to first understand the studentโ€™s strengths and their learning style. Once you know this you can tailor the tutoring style towards these strengths so that they are getting the most out of their experience and they can understand the content in a way that clicks for them. Another important thing is to be calm and patient at all times. It can be hard to grasp and learn difficult concepts and the last thing students need is a negative and impatient tutor criticising them, young people need to feel supported and encouraged.

About Shreyalina

Psychology student who understands how young people learn

Shreyalina is completing an Honours degree in Psychological Science after majoring in Psychology, giving her a strong understanding of how children and teenagers think, learn and stay motivated. She uses this knowledge to break tasks into manageable steps, build confidence and support students who feel anxious about school. Her background in youth mental health and Mental Health First Aid means she is calm, reassuring and able to create a safe, encouraging space for students in both primary and high school.

Experienced youth mentor and school leader

This tutor brings hands-on experience supporting students through several school-based mentoring roles. She has been a youth mentor in a secondary school program, meeting weekly with a student to set SMART goals and build confidence. At school she was a Middle School Prefect, helping organise study-skills presentations, and a โ€œBig Sisterโ€ to Year 7s, running online trivia and games to keep them engaged. She has also supported a primary school homework and holiday club, assisting with reading comprehension and simple science activities.

Relatable role model with strong communication skills

As a former student leader, sports team member and youth advocate, Shreyalina knows how to connect with different personalities and make learning feel approachable. She is fluent in English and proficient in French and Tamil, and is comfortable using digital tools like OneNote, PowerPoint and educational software to create clear notes and practice activities. Parents can expect a tutor who is organised, friendly and able to explain concepts step by step, while helping students set realistic goals and celebrate their progress.
