In this lesson, Imogen demonstrated that she had taken my previous feedback on board by taking more initiative to attempt questions independently. Even when faced with challenging questions, she showed greater persistence and was willing to spend more time working through the problems before seeking help. This reflects positive progress in her confidence, independence and problem-solving skills.
I understand that Imogen has a busy schedule with her schoolwork, but I would encourage her to set aside some time to complete the homework I set her after each tutoring session. Regular practice is important for reinforcing her understanding of the topics covered, applying everything i taught her during our lesson strengthening her problem-solving skills and becoming more confident in recalling and applying the relevant formulas independently. Imogen grasped the concepts quickly and did really well! She understood that m in the equation y = mx + c represents the gradient or slope of a line, while c represents the y-intercept, where the line crosses the y-axis when x = 0. She also understood how to use given coordinate points by substituting the x-value into the equation to help find the y-value.
I would love to see Imogen continue building her confidence in tackling questions independently and challenging herself with more complex problems. In particular, I encourage her to try questions that require finding multiple unknowns in the equation, such as x, y, m and c. This will help her strengthen her problem-solving skills and deepen her understanding of linear equations.

Imogen quickly adapted to the change in question style and was able to recognise that she could use the information already provided in the question to work out what was missing. She demonstrated strong problem-solving skills and confidence in applying what she already knows to unfamiliar questions. Imogen is a quick learner, and it is wonderful to see her becoming more confident in her mathematical thinking every day.
It is evident that Imogen is already developing this mindset, as I can see her taking the initiative to attempt each question independently before asking for help. Imogen adapted well to different question styles, particularly past-paper questions on her homework sheets that included a combination of short-answer and word problems. She demonstrated good flexibility in applying her knowledge across different types of questions.
However, Imogen needs to continue working on carefully reading and understanding each question before beginning, as she can sometimes give up too quickly when she finds a question challenging. I would like to see her continue using the step-by-step approach I taught her, mapping out each question and clearly showing her thinking process and calculation steps. This will help her work through problems more confidently, reduce avoidable mistakes, and develop greater independence when solving unfamiliar questions.
