What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing students grow into their potential and be confident in their capabilities, in terms of academics and perseverance. However, benefits of tutoring go both ways, as I have seen through my own experiences being a volunteer tutor, through developing the skills to adapt to each student and finding ways to enhance engagement and enjoyment in learning.

My Strengths as Tutor πŸ’ͺ

I believe my strengths as a tutor are adaptability and reliability. Being adaptable to each student means that each individual has a tailored learning experience to maximise their learning. I also acknowledge that being a tutor means bearing responsibility for each students' learning journey and being a major supporter in each leg of the journey.

Most important things I can do for a student πŸ…

From personal experience being a student, patience and empathy is one of the most important qualities a tutor should have. It is important in making sure a student fully understands a particular concept, or giving them the confidence and assurance to ask questions to further enhance their learning, without feeling shame.

About Katie

Experienced Maths Tutor with Strong Academic Background

Katie is a dedicated maths tutor who already supports high school students in Mathematical Methods, helping them move beyond just β€œgetting the answer” to really understanding the concepts. She has hands-on experience guiding Year 7 students with their schoolwork and is currently studying Science at university, with a strong background in higher-level Mathematics. This tutor draws on her own success in advanced maths subjects to explain ideas clearly, step-by-step, so students can build confidence and feel prepared for tests and assignments.

Supportive Mentor with Real Leadership Experience

Beyond tutoring, Katie has been a peer support mentor, working closely with younger students to help them settle into school life and manage their workload. She has also held a formal leadership role as Captain of Bands, which has strengthened her communication, organisation and ability to motivate groups of students. These experiences mean she understands how to encourage shy or anxious learners, keep them on track, and break big goals into manageable steps that feel achievable.

Well-Rounded, Organised and Engaging Tutor

Katie brings a well-rounded mix of interests to her tutoring, from high-level piano performance (including an advanced music qualification) to involvement in debating and multiple school sports. This balance of academics, arts and sport helps her relate to a wide range of students and use real-life examples to make maths more engaging. She is highly organised from years of juggling ensembles, teams and studies, and she uses this to help students plan their study time and build strong homework routines.
