What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most is seeing a student’s attitude toward a difficult subject completely transform. Many students begin feeling deflated or a lack of confidence/motivation towards their school work. I enjoy using my patience and encouragement to help them overcome that mental block in creative ways that stimulate and enhance their learning capabilities.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My greatest strengths are my utter patience, adaptability, and creativity. I understand that everyone learns differently, so I pride myself on being adaptive; if one explanation isn't working, I am determined to find another way to approach the problem. My patience allows me to create a safe, judgment-free environment where students feel comfortable making mistakes. Additionally, I use creativity to break down abstract or difficult concepts into relatable, real-world examples or activities that make learning more engaging and memorable.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is build a student’s self-confidence. Often, the biggest barrier to learning is the fear of being 'bad' at a subject. A great tutor removes that fear by creating a structured environment where the student feels in control of their progress. Active listening to identify exactly where the gaps in understanding are. Ultimately, a tutor should be a partner who empowers the student to become an independent learner.

Elaine demonstrated a very high aptitude for Time-related concepts, which are clearly a significant strength for her. She was highly efficient at calculating class and travel durations, interpreting multi-column transport timetables, and performing conversions between 12-hour and 24-hour formats. When introduced to new techniques, such as the Bar Model for additive relations, she showed excellent comprehension during the guided examples and successfully applied the "Subtract and Share" method to resolve initial misconceptions about "more than" problems.
While Elaine is highly capable once a strategy is established, her next step is to independently identify and apply these techniques to trickier, worded problems without guidance. In certain multi-step scenarios, she can sometimes be misled by the wording. We have begun working on "decoding" these questions to determine which tool (the Bar Model or Number Shifting) is the best fit for the task. We will continue to build her independence in future lessons, moving her from guided practice to autonomous problem-solving.

- Ridhaan was effective at understanding and implementing constructive feedback to refine his writing. - He demonstrated strong creative thinking when transforming "dead sentences" into vivid descriptions using the "Show, Don't Tell" method with sensory imagery. - He showed a great aptitude when attempting to analyse a complex excerpt.
- Sensory Differentiation: While Ridhaan’s descriptive writing is improving, he should continue to focus on distinguishing between the various types of sensory imagery (e.g., tactile vs. olfactory) to create more balanced descriptions. - Deductive Analysis: Although he showed immediate improvement upon explanation, further practice in independently identifying the "author’s purpose" in comprehension texts will help him tackle higher-level HAST-style questions with more confidence. - Ridhaan should focus on mastering the TEEL framework especially for essay writing
