What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy the process of building rapport with a student and the process of taking ideas and concepts that have become innate for myself and breaking them to outline each part of a problem.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I have significant experience in mentoring and coaching with students both in high school as a senior debate mentor of two years and primary school children as a water safety officer of five years for SLSC Nipper programs. These roles have provided me with opportunities to hone my verbal communication and teaching skills so that I feel practiced in how to approach teaching in a variety of settings for students of a variety of skill levels.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I feel that the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is instill in them an understanding of how to approach learning. This includes an understanding of how to dissect given tasks, understand what is being asked of them and their personal learning process. This sets up the students to become independent learners.

About Abbey

High-achieving English and Humanities Specialist

Abbey is a high-performing senior student who excels in English and History, consistently ranking at the very top of her academically selective cohort. She has achieved top-band results in Extension English and Modern History, as well as first place in Ancient History and History Extension. Her strong performance across Years 11 and 12 has been recognised with multiple academic excellence awards and competitive scholarships. This tutor is especially well-suited to support students in English, essay writing, source analysis and exam preparation from primary through to senior levels.

Real Teaching Experience with Clear, Step-by-step Explanations

Abbey brings genuine teaching experience, not just good marks. She has co-designed and led weekly coaching sessions for junior debating teams, breaking down complex skills like argument structure and persuasive language into simple, practical steps. She also serves as a judge for a problem-solving and creativity competition, giving detailed, criteria-based feedback to primary students. These roles show her ability to explain tricky concepts clearly, adjust on the spot to different abilities, and help students understand exactly what exam markers are looking for.

Confident Communicator Who Connects with Young Learners

Beyond the classroom, Abbey has spent several years leading groups of 5–12-year-olds in a community water safety program, planning activities and explaining instructions in ways that keep children safe, engaged and confident. She uses a mix of visual demonstration, questioning and discussion so students feel comfortable asking for help and checking their understanding. Her debating background means she communicates clearly and calmly, even under pressure, making her an ideal online tutor for both shy and outgoing students.
