What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
Honestly, itβs the 'lightbulb moment.' There is nothing better than seeing a student go from frustrated and saying 'I just don't get this,' to suddenly realizing that the concept actually makes sense.
Because I come from an engineering background (currently doing my PhD in Aerospace), I really enjoy taking abstract, scary topics like Calculus or Physics and connecting them to real-world examples, like how a plane flies or how a bridge stays up. I love seeing students stop fearing the subject and actually start to find it interesting.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
My biggest strength is the combination of deep subject knowledge and patience. Because I have 5 years of professional tutoring experience (including with Varsity Tutors), I have learned that being good at math doesn't automatically make you a good teacher you have to be able to explain it in three different ways until one clicks.
I am technically proficient in the senior syllabus specifically Maths Methods, Specialist Maths, and Physics so I can answer any question a student throws at me. But more importantly, I am very good at breaking down complex exam questions into small, manageable steps
Most important things I can do for a student π
Beyond just improving grades, the most important thing is building confidence.
In my experience, most students struggle with Maths not because they aren't smart enough, but because they are afraid of making mistakes. A tutor needs to create a safe space where it is okay to get the answer wrong while we figure it out.
Secondly, a tutor should teach independence. I don't just want to help them finish their homework for the week; I want to teach them the study habits and problem-solving frameworks they need to handle the exam on their own when I'm not sitting next to them.
