What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

Although I have not formally tutored before, I was a peer mentor to another student in my school. My favourite thing about this role was seeing her confidence and love of maths grow. When we began the mentoring, she was struggling with many concepts and not enjoying maths as a subject. It was really rewarding to see her understanding develop over time as I went through examples with her and clarified points of difficulty. I was proud that she went on to study maths at university, demonstrating the value of the mentoring sessions.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

Having a degree in Mathematics and Statistics gives me a strong foundation to tutor maths at all levels. I have experience volunteering with young people from many different backgrounds. This has allowed me to develop a patient approach and given me the ability to adapt explanations and instructions to individual needs, which is a skill that I will apply to tutoring. I am reliable and have strong organisation skills, so will be well prepared for tutoring sessions.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think that the most important thing that a tutor can do for a student is to help them gain confidence by being supportive and adapting techniques to individual students. Providing one-to-one support allows time to give detailed explanations of how to correct mistakes and the opportunity to celebrate small achievements, which can improve motivation and give students more self-belief.

About Katherine

Strong Mathematics Background with Top Results

Katherine holds a first-class degree in Mathematics and Statistics, giving her a deep understanding of the concepts students meet in primary and high school. She has consistently achieved results in the top grade ranges across maths and related subjects, so she knows what is expected in exams and how to break tricky ideas into manageable steps. This tutor uses her strong subject knowledge to explain topics clearly, check understanding carefully and help students build reliable problem-solving skills.

Hands-On Experience Supporting Young Learners

Katherine has spent several years working directly with children and teenagers, including assisting teachers at English language camps for students aged 11–17. In these roles she prepared resources, gave one-to-one support, marked worksheets and helped lead small groups, which closely mirrors the structure of a tutoring session. She has also led regular activity sessions for children aged 8–12, planning engaging tasks and adapting them on the spot so every child could take part confidently and safely.

Patient, Personable Approach that Builds Confidence

This tutor is known for her calm, encouraging style and clear communication with both students and parents. As a student ambassador, she regularly presented complex information to nervous audiences and answered detailed questions, experience she now uses to put anxious learners at ease in maths. Katherine takes time to listen to how a student thinks, then tailors examples and practice to their interests. She keeps parents informed about progress and next steps, focusing on steady gains in confidence as well as marks.
