What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy witnessing that split second when a student moves from confusion to clarity. Coming from a sports background, I see it like coaching: there is a huge satisfaction in helping someone drill a technique they struggled with until it suddenly clicks. I also love demystifying subjects like math and coding; many students find them intimidating, and I enjoy showing them that with the right breakdown, these subjects are actually just logical puzzles they can solve

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My main strengths are patience and decomposition. In my field of study, programming and data science, we have to break complex problems into small, executable steps. I apply this to tutoring by breaking down big, scary concepts into manageable pieces. I don’t get frustrated when a student doesn’t understand something immediately; I just look for a new angle to explain it

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is make themselves obsolete. My goal isn’t just to help them pass the next exam, but to help them build the confidence and study habits to learn on their own. A tutor should provide a psychologically safe environment where it’s okay to say ‘I don’t know’ or make mistakes without judgment. Once a student feels safe to fail, they become willing to try harder problems, and that is where the real learning happens

About Atharva

High-achieving maths specialist with proven exam success

Atharva brings exceptional mathematical strength to his tutoring, having consistently scored in the top range at school and achieving a perfect score in senior Mathematics. He has excelled in competitive exams, including international standard tests and multiple Maths Olympiads, where he earned several gold and silver medals. This tutor is currently studying advanced computing with a strong focus on calculus, linear algebra and statistics, so he can clearly explain both school-level content and extension topics, from fractions and algebra through to senior Maths methods and exam preparation.

Data-driven approach to clear, logical learning

As a data science student, Atharva is used to breaking complex problems into simple, logical steps – the exact skill students need in Maths. He regularly works with probability, modelling and statistics, and has completed specialist courses in quantitative modelling and advanced statistics. In sessions, he uses this background to show students different ways to approach a question, check answers logically, and understand “why”, not just “how”. This builds confidence for classroom tests, NAPLAN-style questions and senior exam-style problems.

Supportive mentor who connects through sport and real-life examples

Beyond academics, Atharva has mentored first-year university students, guiding them through study strategies and time management, and he enjoys informally tutoring peers in both academic and co-curricular topics. His background in competitive soccer and other sports helps him relate to students who need structure and motivation, using sports analogies to explain focus, practice and resilience. He often links Maths problems to real-life examples like sport statistics or everyday budgeting, making lessons more engaging for both primary and high school students.
