What do I enjoy most about tutoring? ๐Ÿ˜

The thing i enjoy the most about tutoring is the feeling of being able to help to work with and help students who were just like me, potentially struggling with certain subjects. If I can show them a different perspective and perhaps a way to enjoy the subject, I would feel very proud and happy for them.

My Strengths as Tutor ๐Ÿ’ช

My strengths include coming from a Selective Entry high school (Macrob), as well as the St Monicaโ€™s Accelerated learning program. This highlights the fact that I have a familiar history with tutoring and tests, as well as harder education. I will be able to provide my experience and knowledge, as well as a further sense of understanding and patience.

Most important things I can do for a student ๐Ÿ…

Personally, i believe the most important things a tutor can do for a student is to work with them according to EACH specific student. From personal experience, I know that not every child absorbs information or learns the same way, some may take longer, or perhaps require a different method. I think it is vital for tutors to recognise this and actually take the time and effort to try and understand these students so that time isnโ€™t wasted and that these students can also get the help the deserve.

About Joanne

Confident communicator with strong academic results

Joanne is a recent secondary school graduate who has consistently achieved academic excellence, giving her a solid foundation for tutoring primary and lower secondary students. As a former house drama director, she is confident speaking in front of others and explaining ideas clearly, which helps her break down tricky concepts into simple, step-by-step explanations. Joanneโ€™s ability to manage multiple responsibilities at school means she brings organisation and reliability to every lesson, ensuring sessions are focused, structured and productive.

Early tutoring experience and bilingual support

This tutor already has formal experience working as an education tutor, so she understands how to guide students through exercises, check understanding, and adjust the pace when needed. Joanne is fluent in both English and Mandarin, which can be especially helpful for students from multilingual households or for parents who prefer bilingual communication. She uses clear examples, checks for understanding frequently, and encourages students to ask questions so they build confidence as well as skills in English and maths.

Patient, creative and engaged with learning

Joanne brings creativity from her drama background and discipline from her advanced piano studies into her tutoring style. She knows how to keep students engaged by using real-life examples, simple analogies, and short, varied activities to maintain attention. Having volunteered as a school library monitor, she is comfortable helping younger students with reading and study habits. Parents can expect a patient tutor who listens carefully, notices when a student is stuck, and adjusts her approach to help them feel capable and motivated.
