What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I love tutoring because each student’s mind is a puzzle of its own, which keeps me on my toes. It truly is a two-way street, in the sense that I share knowledge while also learning myself from my students’ perspectives, curiosity and questions.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
One of my strongest qualities as a tutor is my interdisciplinary background. I'm equally comfortable with STEM subjects and the humanities, having achieved A+ grades across my subjects and a 99+ raw ATAR, which allows me to explain concepts from different perspectives and adapt to each student's learning style. I take the time to understand how each student learns and adjust my explanations accordingly, whether that means using anecdotes or visual diagrams. I'm also personable, encouraging and attentive, which helps students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe in helping students develop independence and take ownership of their learning. As their tutor, I’m there to guide, clarify and celebrate each breakthrough, providing support while letting them take the lead in discovering. I also think that building confidence is as important as understanding content, as it is what will ensure students remain motivated and capable.

About Emma
Tutoring Experience
I have been privately tutoring mathematics and biology for the past three years, at a primary level and for Year 11 and 12s. I also have guided students to achieve High Distinctions and Distinctions in the ICAS Assessments and top results in NAPLAN.
I have six months' worth of experience tutoring UCAT, as well as drafting English papers.
I currently volunteer for a not-for-profit organisation, as part of which I conduct one-on-one weekly tutorials on Zoom, teaching English to Cambodian schoolchildren.
Tertiary Studies
I’m presently studying medicine at Adelaide University. I hope to ultimately become a clinician-scientist in neurosurgery, combining hands-on patient care with extensive research through a PhD.
Personal Academic Achievements
I am a national public speaker and was a recipient of the Governor of South Australia Commendation for academic excellence in SACE. I have multiple national honours in academic competitions, including the National History Challenge and the Australian Mathematics Challenge. I was also elected school leadership in Year 12 as SRC Executive and Swim Captain, in addition to volunteering, advocacy and research experience.

Demonstrated a clear understanding of the distinction between rational and irrational numbers and how surds represent irrational values. Successfully applied several operations with surds, particularly simplifying and multiplying. Showed good engagement when learning Pythagorean theorem and was able to apply it correctly to basic geometric and word problems. Understood how mutations contribute to variation within populations. Demonstrated a solid grasp of the four-step process of natural selection and could articulate it using various examples.
Needs further practice with more complex surd operations, particularly rationalising denominators and expanding expressions involving surds. Would benefit from additional practice working with positive and negative signs, and associated arithmetic.
Good grasp on DNA and its function, as well as mitosis/meiosis. Seems to understand index laws and how to simplify expressions.

A little more clarity required around expansion, as well as negative number arithmetic operations.
Successfully covered DNA and cell division (mitosis/meiosis) - Althea shows comprehensive understanding.
