What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy getting the opportunity to encourage and empower students/ young people to pursue and improve their skills in their preferred subject and helping make clear and bring light to what they do not understand. I have a passion for learning and would love the opportunity to nurture both primary and secondary school students to chase their dreams and improve their confidence.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am patient and calm when teaching, I have an open and friendly personality and understand not everything can be understood very quickly. I have many different short cuts especially in maths and english which have helped me in the past to grasp concepts, and I love answering questions and encouraging students to ask more questions and find their way when learning new concepts or topics.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is improve their self confidence and encourage them. Students should be able to take away the learned topic and also have a sense of pride and worthiness in themselves. They should feel they have the skills and tools to further their learning in whichever direction that drives, them with the idea that they can do it, and they have support along the way when needed (from tutor).

About Roothy
Building confidence through understanding
I am a dedicated and supportive tutor who is passionate about helping students build both confidence and academic capability. With a strong academic background and experience in high school robotics, I have developed strong problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps. I believe effective learning comes from truly understanding the "why" behind concepts, not just memorising content.
Equipping students for long-term success
Having worked towards challenging academic goals myself, I understand the importance of discipline, consistency, and resilience. I aim to equip my students not only with subject knowledge but also with effective study strategies, critical thinking skills, and time management techniques that will support them well beyond the classroom.
Empowering every student to reach their potential
Above all, I strive to create a positive and respectful learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging actively in their learning. I take pride in adapting my teaching approach to suit each student's individual needs, ensuring they feel both supported and appropriately challenged as they work towards their goals.

Abi had a growth mindset and with guidance worked through where she made mistakes regarding fractions (adding and subtracting), she realised when she should be adding and subtracting and even extended herself when the denominators were not the same. We worked through a few pattern recognition and creating equations questions and she was very successful in her thinking when she worked through the speed questions (e.g. 1m in 10 seconds, how many metres in 1 second?). She asked plenty of questions and explained her thinking and gained an understanding into an introduction to coefficients and how to form equations and what each letter represents (using a basic table – (x,y)).
Abi seemed a little nervous when working through problems involving decimals and numbers smaller than 1 (e.g. 0.51 and 0.508, which is bigger?). We worked through some problems regarding angles and these were more advanced questions and she was partway capable of understanding how to form an equation however, the basics of algebra need to be visited both in class and in the tutoring sessions. However, she did excellent today and asked plenty of questions and was a keen learner. Despite her initial hesitation, she needs to maintain current efforts and continue to believe in herself, as she is a very capable student.

Lithuki is able to understand the basic theory or logarithms, she is getting introduced to the topic and thus not much progress has been made. She worked through creating a mini half a page cheat sheet and also her assignment in which i drafted her introduction and part 1 (half way).
Lithuki is working on her time management skills, occasionally she tends to procrastinate when it comes to her assignment and thus she finds herself needing to spend nights working, she is however reflecting on this and is working on splitting assignments into smaller manageable sections to avoid this.

Overall, Lithuki is able to deconstruct the questions down into smaller segments which allows her to gain a better understanding of what the question is asking thus allowing her to increasingly visualise the questions. She asks plenty of questions and I do not need to prompt her when she is working through a question and she makes a mistake.
Lithuki is working well, however she occasionally struggles to visualise the questions which can lead to her struggling to complete the entirety of the question despite her being able to break the question down, the basics may need to be reviewed before she can progress onto completing more complex questions.

Abi is getting better at mental maths and her times tables, she is able to efficiently and quickly solve multiplication problems such as 12 x 12 and 7 x 8 without spending too much time writing them down. In turn, she is slowly improving her skills regarding fractions and understanding how to form improper fractions and find equivalent fractions. We did an introduction to BEDMAS problems, and we went through a few questions ranging from different levels of difficulty including exponentials which Abi was able to grasp herself through trial and error. Overall she did very well today and had a very growth mindset regarding her learning. Reading and interpreting graphs were touched on and she did an excellent job and effectively analysed and understood what the graphs represented.
Abi is doing really well, however she needs to practise more fraction problems as she tends to get a little confused when a fraction is introduced. The basics of what a fraction is will be focussed on in future lessons and also more BEDMAS questions will be attempted to reduce confusion of the order of operations. Abi is a very competent student and overall she did a good job today.
