What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy tutoring because it combines my passion for math with my love of helping others. I really enjoy the sense of achievement gained from a "light-up" face or a "that makes sense" when I was tutoring my younger sister who is currently in year 7. Therefore, I find it really rewarding to break down concepts, adapt my explanations to fit students' learning style, and watch their confidence grow.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My key strengths are my patience with young learners. I understand that we cannot use the standard of adult to demand younger ones. In addition, I have the ability to turn concepts into visual imageries, helping students to understand it better. In this case they gradually build-up their passion and confidence with math.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

When I was in grade two, I encountered Königsberg bridge problem and I found that mathematics is not just about formula and calculation (despite now I know that this problem belongs to topology). Therefore, in my opinion, being a tutor is not just about improving students' grade, but also to foster their passion and curiosity toward the subject.

About Hao

Strong Maths Background with Proven Competition Success

Hao brings a high level of mathematical ability, backed by outstanding results in advanced school mathematics. He has achieved high distinction in a national mathematics competition, placing in the top few percent of his year, and has been recognised in international contests such as a mathematical modelling competition and an invitational examination. These experiences mean he is very familiar with challenging problemsolving and exam-style questions, which he breaks down into clear, manageable steps for primary and high school students.

IB Diploma Experience and Clear Communication

Having completed the International Baccalaureate Diploma with top marks in higher level Maths and strong results across English and other subjects, Hao understands demanding curricula and how different subjects connect. He draws on his presentation and mentoring skills to explain concepts in more than one way, using everyday examples and visual methods. As a fluent English and native Chinese speaker, he can support bilingual students and families, and adjust explanations to suit different language backgrounds.

Organised, Encouraging and Student-Focused Sessions

Hao is highly organised and plans each session around the student’s current schoolwork and long-term goals, whether that is building number confidence in primary school or tackling extension problems in high school. He often uses past competition and exam-style questions to stretch stronger students, while creating stepbystep practice for those who need to rebuild foundations. With experience in leadership and mentoring roles, this tutor creates a calm, encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and taking on new challenges.
