My name is Oscar Kiely, and I’m from Thirroul, where I enjoy spending time at Thirroul Beach. Soccer is my passion, I both play and watch it regularly. My favourite subject is maths, and I enjoy teaching students to help them develop their academic skills
In his day-to-day work, Oscar has become skilled at breaking down complex information into simple, easy-to-follow steps, whether that’s explaining a menu or answering detailed questions. He brings this same approach to tutoring, guiding students through Maths and English problems one step at a time. He is comfortable encouraging shy learners to speak up, and he uses everyday examples to make abstract concepts feel more familiar and less intimidating.
Oscar’s experience setting up and managing busy service environments has made him organised, punctual and reliable, qualities that carry directly into his tutoring. He helps students structure their homework and revision so they don’t feel overwhelmed, and he keeps sessions calm and focused, even when a student is frustrated. This tutor aims to build confidence by celebrating small improvements, encouraging questions and creating a relaxed space where students feel safe to make mistakes and learn from them.

We worked on area of a composite shape where he is improving his mathematical skills and stratergies to find the area of composite shapes. Also he is able to continue to retain knowledge that we learnt from the past, such as area of triangles, squares.
He needs to memorise all the formulas to find all the types of shapes. This is really important as he knows how the formla works but can not consistantly remember it when answering a question.
We did a bit of revision where we worked on circumferance of a circle and the area of a rhombus/kite. He executed those questions easily which was good to see.

He is able to solve the area of composite shapes but is not able to perfected, as we will continue working on this topic, so he can get better. I have given him some homework to do so he can get better at this topic.
It was good that we were starting composite shapes as this would build his mathmatical skills in area.

Due to the difficulty of composite shapes, he was unable to find the value of the sides that was needed to find the area. Although, this will eventually be understood by the student.

Composite Shapes was continued from last lessson. He could now find the value of the missing sides to find the area of the composite shape. This shows the student's character of never giving up, which allowed him to understand the concept of finding the area of composite shapes.
He needs to consistantly demonstrate finding the value of the composite shape correctly. This will come with more practice.
