I am studying a Master of Teaching (Primary) at the University of New South Wales. You can be confident that I will use evidence based techniques to help your child develop their skills and confidence!
My tutoring approach is based on best educational practice. I can assist students that are struggling or performing below their grade level using a patient approach and with techniques like scaffolding or trying to simplify the task using cognitive load reduction methods. If you need someone to help your child advance beyond grade level, I can do that by teaching from the next stage of the curriculum or assigning activities that use higher level critical thinking skills. In addition to the above, I always try to make content relevant to the student's life and goals. Some students, though not all, may not understand why their schoolwork or grades are important. At times in my schooling I felt this way and I find that making connections between schoolwork and my students' goals often greatly improves their confidence. An area of professional interest for me is tutoring students from a non- english speaking background. Throughout my Teaching degree I've done extra reading and research on this topic as I would like to specialise in this when I graduate. I also have a strong interest in languages generally; I know French and I am hoping to acquire a third language in the near future, perhaps Indonesian or Chinese. I feel confident taking on students from a non- english speaking background for either general tutoring and/or to improve their english language fluency.
Currently I am a tutor with the Shack Tutoring program at the University of New South Wales. This offers free tutoring to students who need it. I am currently tutoring a senior high school student through this program. I have previously taught cooking lessons for school students in Kindergarten to Year 6, in the USA. I was also a full- time environmental educator in Colorado's Rocky Mountains (in the USA) for a summer.

Jonathan can solve most addition and subtraction problems quickly, some in his head.

Jonathan often solves problems mostly/completely in his head, which is impressive, however I would like to see him put more working on paper and follow written maths conventions more closely. This will be a focus next week, I will also try to find some trickier problems for him.

Nothing went poorly - future lessons will build skills in long addition. I will also introduce long subtraction as a substitute for the jump method. In spelling we will further explore phonetic approaches to spelling as well as exceptions to phonics in the english language.

I have no major concerns that Kai is performing below the level expected for his age. Further tutoring can help him excel and prepare for higher year levels. Kai is a slightly reserved child and it will take time to develop a relationship with him, however I look forward to doing so.
Further tutoring can help Kai excel.
