What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy seeing students reach that 'aha' moment where concepts finally make sense, and seeing how their confidence grows from that point.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I am able to relate and empathize with students as I realize how frustrating and mentally burdensome it is to not understand a concept. I begin by identifying gaps in a student's learning and understanding, and why exactly the student needs me. I tailor my teaching to each student's unique learning style to make once difficult concepts easy to grasp.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
A tutor should help instill confidence in a student, and make them realize that no challenge is too complex if you approach it the right way. Tutors should build students up to be independent learners that can apply knowledge to unfamiliar problems, even without guidance.

Maelia came with the essay I told her to write at home. This persuasive essay was much better than what she initially wrote during our previous session. Maelia was able to identify some features of the student exemplar that were great and others that needed to be worked on. I commend Maelia for taking initiative to prepare for the lesson ahead of time.
Maelia needs to work on her spelling and punctuation. I suggest that Maelia revisits session notes to cement her understanding of the concepts that we discuss, otherwise she may forget them.

Maelia is receptive and engaged. She has since improved her note-taking and now uses the Cornell note-taking style and also consistently dates her notes. She wrote down what she needs to do before our next session, which shows an eagerness to learn.
Maelia needs to take time breaking down assessment briefs before attempting to respond. She is quick to ask what to do even though everything is stated in the prompt. Maelia finds talking out loud awkward. She does it when prompted but quickly stops unless prompted again.

Maelia demonstrated a positive attitude throughout the session and was receptive to support. She followed instructions attentively and engaged fully in all activities. She was open to feedback and expressed a willingness to implement suggested strategies, including adopting a simplified version of the Cornell note-taking style (which interestingly was required for a section of her task 2 assignment from school), consistently dating her notes, getting a binder/folder for papers, and maintaining a separate notebook for tutoring sessions.
Maelia would benefit from further development in her organisation skills, note-taking, and overall learning strategies. Consistent practice in these areas would help develop good habits and strengthen her abilities as a learner.
