What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy tutoring because of the personal opportunities for growth that it can offer. For example, teaching students and seeing them improve and excel in their classes is a very rewarding experience. Also, during my prior tutoring experience, I enjoyed applying the knowledge I learned in school to teaching, as I felt that this helped to consolidate my own knowledge and made me enjoy learning more. I also enjoyed the aspect of purpose that tutoring gave me, knowing that I was learning how to better my time management skills whilst also helping others.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
Having worked in a retail setting before, I learned customer service skills and communication, which I think would be very helpful skills as a tutor. Also, having recently graduated the HSC, I can definitely empathise with the struggles of high school and understand the academic (as well as emotional) needs of students. I am also patient and flexible with time, so I can work around the timetables of students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe that tutors should not only help students academically succeed, but also holistically provide support to support student wellbeing. As marks should not mean everything, despite schools often internalising that academics are important, I believe that tutors should act as a guidance/mentor for students. Tutors should also constantly maintain good communication with students, and they should be a welcoming and approachable presence during stressful exam periods, for example.
