What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I really enjoy finding ways for students to understand concepts in a way that they wouldn't be able to get in a classroom. I love finding different ways of presenting questions, topics, and theories, and the satisfaction of finding a method that matches with my student. My current student works well through examples; I taught him how to use trigonometry to calculate how an axe flys through the air when you throw it!
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
The greatest strength I've found when tutoring is my ability to act as a "safer" type of teacher. I find that the most significant difference between a tutor and a schoolteacher is the power distance faced by the student, and that narrowing is power distance by being welcoming, non-threatening, and easy to talk to is the greatest tool in the tutors arsenal. I have experience in venues where maintaining a welcoming nature has been an absolute must, and using that during tutoring has resulted in great success connecting with students.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Building confidence in one's ability to achieve their goals is by the far the most important thing a tutor can do in my eyes; if a student can believe they are capable of achievement, they're already strides ahead. I believe a student who sees themselves achieve with a tutor is more likely to believe they can achieve in class, tests, and in general, which in turn fills them with greater confidence for further study. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy driven by confidence. Sparking that confidence is the best thing a tutor can do for a student, hands down.
