What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I enjoy being able to be flexible with the student in a way they can't get in the classroom. Being able to really flesh out one concept and return to it routinely and see it click is very rewarding to me.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I try to approach students as I do my friends - learning how they express themselves and how they like to do things, in this case learn. Rather than try to force a method of teaching onto a student, I prefer to pay attention to what grips their focus. If they need to see how concepts are applied, I can adapt lessons to focus more on that. If they want to know why a concept developed this way and not another, I think a brief foray into it's history is a good use of time. I am at all moments trying to translate whatever the material is into wording that already makes sense to the student.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Being able to show how certain subjects and ideas interplay with each other. From the student's point of view, many of the ideas taught in the classroom seem randomly introduced and without much design. The role of the tutor is to make those things make sense in relation to each other. If the tutor is successful, the student's learning experience can extend beyond regular study hours, as they notice the things they learned in class in their everyday life. So the most important thing I can do for a student is to demonstrate how worthwhile what they learn in school really is.
