What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
The moment it clicks. There's this specific look a student gets when something they've been fighting with for weeks suddenly makes sense, they go quiet, then almost annoyed, like "wait, that's it? that's all it was?" I love that. It never gets old.
What I enjoy most, though, is watching someone slowly stop being scared of the subject. A lot of students turn up convinced they're just "not a maths person," and you can see them bracing for another hour of feeling stupid. Getting to be the person who chips away at that, who makes them realise they're actually capable, they were just taught it i
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I think my biggest strength is that I still remember what it's like to not get it. I'm a student myself, so everything I teach is fresh, I've recently sat the same kinds of exams and made the same mistakes, so I can explain things the way they actually make sense, not the way a textbook puts it.
I'm also patient. It doesn't bother me if something takes three or four goes to land, usually that just means I haven't found the right way in yet, so I keep trying different angles until it clicks.
One thing students seem to really appreciate is that I give them handwritten notes for each topic.
