What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
What I enjoy most is the moment a stuck student suddenly gets it. My current student used to freeze on multi step problems, so we broke them into small steps and checked each one as we went. Now she attempts questions she would have skipped a month ago, and that confidence carries into class. I enjoy working out why a student is stuck, whether it’s a gap from an earlier year or just nerves, and finding the explanation that works for them. Teaching chess to kids, I see the same spark when they spot a pattern on their own.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My biggest strength is explaining things in more than one way. If my first explanation doesn’t land, I try a diagram, a real life example or a smaller step until it clicks. I know the content well: I finished the IB with 36, the top score in my school, including HL Maths. I plan each session around the student’s classwork, set small goals so they can see progress, and keep parents updated. Teaching chess to groups of 7 to 12 year olds has also taught me to keep lessons active and engaging.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do is build confidence. Many students have decided they’re bad at maths, and that belief stops them trying. Once they start getting questions right, even small ones, they believe they can improve. Next, find the real gap: trouble with algebra often comes from fractions or negative numbers. Finally, teach them to learn on their own, breaking problems down and checking their work, so they don’t rely on a tutor in class or exams.

About Param
About me and education
Hi, I’m Param, a student at QUT studying a double degree in Information Technology (Artificial Intelligence) and a Master of Data Science. Maths has always been one of my strongest subjects, and I enjoy helping students reach the point where it starts to make sense.
Education
I completed the IB Diploma with a score of 36, the highest in my school cohort, including Higher Level Mathematics.
Tutoring Experience
I currently tutor a middle school student in maths and English, and I teach chess to children aged 7 to 12 in schools. Before moving to Brisbane, I founded and ran BitCode Academy, a coding program for younger students, where I designed the lessons and taught the classes myself. These experiences have taught me how to adapt my teaching to each student’s age, pace and confidence.
My Teaching Approach
I focus on understanding rather than memorising. I get students to talk through their thinking so I can see exactly where they get stuck, and I teach habits like checking each step to cut down on careless mistakes in tests. I work through earlier gaps alongside current schoolwork, so students keep up in class while building stronger foundations. Many students who come to tutoring believe they’re “not good at maths”, so I make sure they experience real progress early and build confidence from there.
