What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is helping students understand challenging concepts and seeing their confidence grow. I find it especially rewarding when students have that "Ah ha!" moment and begin to enjoy learning. I love sharing my passion for Mathematics and helping students realise that learning can be enjoyable and rewarding with the right guidance and encouragement.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

My strengths are patience, clear communication, and the ability to adapt my teaching to different learning needs. With a background in Computer Science and Mathematics, along with my teaching placement experience at Glenunga International High School, I can explain complex concepts in simple, engaging ways. I am also approachable and encouraging, helping students feel comfortable asking questions.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I believe the most important things a tutor can do are build students' confidence, understand their individual learning needs, and create a supportive learning environment. Rather than simply providing answers, a good tutor should guide students to think independently, develop problem-solving skills, and become more confident learners.

About Rachel

Academic Background

I hold a Bachelor of Computer Science from the University of Adelaide, graduating with a GPA of 6.5/7.0 and achieving High Distinctions (HD) in all my Mathematics courses. I am currently pursuing a Master of Secondary Teaching, specialising in Mathematics and Digital Technologies. My academic background has equipped me with strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, which I am passionate about sharing with students. I aim to make Mathematics easier to understand by breaking down complex concepts into clear, manageable steps.

Teaching Experience

I have gained valuable classroom teaching experience through my professional placement at Glenunga International High School, where I taught Mathematics to Year 7, 8, and 9 students, helping them develop their mathematical understanding, problem-solving skills, and confidence. I also work as a Code Camp head teacher, teaching students coding and problem-solving skills in an engaging and supportive environment. These experiences have strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly, adapt my teaching strategies to different learning needs, and create positive and engaging learning experiences.

My Tutoring Approach & Passion

I believe Mathematics is more than just memorising formulas or finding the correct answer. It is about developing logical thinking, curiosity, and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems. I enjoy making lessons interactive and relatable by connecting mathematical concepts to real-life situations and encouraging students to explain their reasoning. Every student learns differently, so I tailor my approach to their individual strengths, challenges, and goals. My greatest reward is seeing students become independent problem-solvers who approach Mathematics with confidence and enthusiasm.
