What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

What I enjoy most about tutoring is that moment when something just clicks for someone, especially when it's a concept they've been struggling with. I love being able to make that moment happen, whether it's through a different explanation, a creative example or simply approaching the problem from another perspective. For me, whether I enjoyed a subject often depended on the teacher and how they made me feel about learning it. This has shaped the way I approach tutoring. I love making learning less intimidating and helping students discover that they're capable of more than they think.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I believe my biggest strengths are my patience, adaptability and ability to explain difficult concepts in simple, approachable ways. Through my tutoring experience, I've learnt that everyone learns differently, and sometimes all it takes is a different explanation or approach. As a university note-taker, I developed my ability to identify key information and organise complex material into clear, structured notes. Studying IT & AI also means I often find myself explaining difficult concepts to friends, which has taught me how to break things down without making someone feel overwhelmed.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think one of the most important things a tutor can do is believe in their student's ability to improve, even when the student doesn't believe in themselves yet. I'm aware of the Pygmalion effect, where our expectations of others can influence their performance. Because of this, I try to approach every student with encouragement in their potential. I don't believe students should be labelled as simply 'bad' at a subject. Sometimes they just need a different explanation, more patience or a learning approach that suits them better. A tutor should build confidence, not just improve grades.
