What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
Help students understand concepts that they've struggled with, and contextualise what may seem to be a huge amount of random facts into something intuitive. I used to struggle with maths so helping other students become more confident in maths is rewarding.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I try to keep a logical string in my head of concepts. Ie when students struggle with algebra, a lot of my past students have benefited from going back to basics of linear algebra then working up to quadratics again. Keeping the progression from adding numbers, to adding things that represent numbers, adding higher powers, fractions, brackets etc.
When introducing new concepts I tie it back into familiar concepts and think about why we would want to extend to the new concept- what it might let us achieve that we couldn't with old concepts.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
Listen to their struggling points and help them step by step to figure out what they're doing wrong and give them some confidence for how to proceed when they're by themselves. Sometimes all that's required is being walked through how to approach and solve a problem.
Additionally, giving them resources (or helping them make their own) like notes and formula sheets as memory aids helps a lot in my experience.
