What do I enjoy most about tutoring?
I enjoy the act of holding a student's attention and guiding it towards discovering things that light up his/her imagination. I especially enjoy seeing, in myself and others, that breakthrough moment when the confusion suddenly clears away and a subject matter is thoroughly absorbed.
My Strengths as Tutor
According to famed physicist Richard Feynman, if you are not able to explain a concept or idea in simple terms, you have not fully understood it. I believe my ability to focus long enough to fully understand a subject from various angles and decompose it into elementary terms is one of my key strengths. Secondly, but equally importantly, I believe I have the empathy necessary to speak to students at their current level of understanding and to gently help them reach higher levels. Finally, I'd like to mention my easy-going personality allows students to ask questions without hesitation.
Most important things I can do for a student
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is help a student well enough so that he/she no longer needs a tutor and is able to independently accumulate knowledge most of the time. Self-sufficiency ,in my opinion, is the most valuable skill a student should have and a good tutor empowers their students to cultivate it.
