What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I think the feeling after every session knowing that you're helping someone else & sharing the knowledge you've already earned. Generally, I'm always happy and proud whenever I see someone be better because I've made any impact no matter how small it may is.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I'm a patient person which helps me not to get frustrated too easily, especially during tutoring. I have a considerably good interpersonal skill (i.e. communication), and I'm also a very committed person who likes to be prepared at all times so I know what's expected of me. Lastly, I'm always open to suggestions as I constantly want to improve in order to work better, in this case to be a better tutor for the student.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to acknowledge & implement the way that works best for the student to learn based on their struggles, weaknesses, and also strengths. For example, if a student struggles in memorisation, then creating a storyline would make them understand better. A tutor must not only be smart & knowledgeable, but being able to work with the student so they can achieve things together.

Ashley was really good with the topic and didn’t need a lot of help with answering the questions. Understood what each term (mean, median, etc) is referring to, and showed fluency in doing the questions.

Needs Improvement

One improvement for Ashley could be in getting more used to steam & leaf plots, especially when the order is switched from increasing to decreasing numbers. This can be quite deceptive when trying to find the mean, Q1, and Q3, so with more practice Ashley can definitely overcome this.

The sine & cosine rule is a tricky formula for students to get used to, but Ashley understood it well enough considering that it’s a new topic that she hasn’t even learned yet at school. Good job!

Needs Improvement

Just need to get used to the formula more. More practice in the future will help Ashley to be more fluent in knowing which sides of the triangle the formula is referring to.

Ashley was quick to understand when I showed her an alternative method using the cross method, which she hasn’t even learned yet at school. I had only needed to explain once using one example and afterwards, she was more than able to apply it on her own and had not once made any notable mistakes throughout.

Needs Improvement

From today’s session, there was nothing else significant that Ashley needed to improve on other than her speed. After one year of tutoring Ashley, she’s shown to be a natural fast-learner and is an intelligent kid. One advice I would give her for the future is to pay more attention to avoid making silly & unnecessary mistakes, preferably by doing more of back-checking in the future. Once she overcomes this and has improved her speed, Ashley will excel even more than she already does. Best of luck in everything! x

Chloe understands much faster when she’s being explained visually by using pictures / graphs, and understood adding / subtracting & simplifying fractions better when using pie charts. Khan Academy videos also really helped her to understand division, which is highly recommended for Chloe when self-learning.

Needs Improvement

Sometimes Chloe tend to lose focus midway, and found herself getting confused in doing another similar question. Therefore, understanding the concept is more important than basic memorisation.
