What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
I have always loved mentoring and supporting others and getting them excited about subjects that I feel passionately about. As a tutor, I try to get to know my students and understand their unique motivations, goals, and how they best learn, so I can support their growth. As someone who personally loves mathematics and economics and has experience applying these subjects in the professional world, I would be excited to deepen students' understanding of these subjects and share with them how useful they can be to real-world scenarios.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
My strengths are my empathy, communication skills, and experience applying theory to practice. Every student is different, and I have experience mentoring and working with a range of personalities. I take pride in my ability to read others' emotions and provide them the support they need to move forward. Having competed nationally in debate and worked in management, I have experience communicating complex concepts. Given my work experience in data science (statistics), economics research, and business, I can speak to the applicability of the subjects I am teaching.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe the most important things a tutor can do are (1) instill in a student the confidence that they are or can be good at a subject and can overcome the challenges they are experiencing, and (2) get the student excited about the subject so that they feel energized about learning it in the future.

N/A - she has a strong grasp of the topics we've covered to date and I don't think she needs further lessons. We discussed this (including with her mother) at the end and they agreed. They said if she does need any more help next year they'll reach back out.

He was very open to the flashcards methodology and was intent on getting the pronunciation of the words right, which was great! His pronunciation did improve and he was already starting to retain the words better after going through the flashcards a couple times.
I think Cooper needs help planning ahead for things. It's hard to study for an Italian test with just a night's preparation - you really need time for the vocab to sit in. In maths and english he is also pretty far behind on his self-paced online tasks, e.g., Mathletics.

He developed a good understanding of what multiples are and what factors are - we did some practice problems in these areas. He seemed to understand LCM and HCF as well, we should do the Mathletics problems in these areas together if there are any.
Demonstrated discomfort with division - Cooper mentioned that when he comes across division problems he usually skips them because he doesn't really understand how to do them. We will cover this topic next week.

He showed a much stronger grasp of and comfort with division by the end of the lesson - he did 10 division problems from Mathletics and got them all correct!! Some of them were pretty complex, too.
No areas for improvement really - next lesson we should revisit LCM and HCF, incorporating the division techniques for him to identify when a whole number is a factor or not.
