What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
I find the most enjoyable aspect of tutoring stems from being involved in helping students achieve their goal. As a recent high school graduate I am aware of the struggle with understanding content and managing time against other commitments. As such it is extremely rewarding to contribute to their progress and provide guidance. I additionally believe that many students underestimate their own academic ability, particularly with mathematics, attributing it to simply not being a βmaths personΓ’β¬. Helping students discover potential that they may not have known they had is highly fulfilling.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
I believe my greatest strength as a tutor is the ability to easily break down complex topics and thus explain difficult concepts in a simple and logical way. This strength stems from having considerable depths of knowledge and experience with my topics resulting in a deep intuition for them. For example, I have found one way to develop this intuition is to analyse a concept from different angles. I also believe I am capable of adapting my teaching style to the student's needs. An example of this in mathematics could be linking back topics to real world examples for more pragmatic students.
Most important things I can do for a student π
I believe the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide them with an intuition and understanding of the topic rather than simply rote learning facts and formulas. Providing the student with the right mindset to approach new problems and topics they encounter will equip them for success at all levels of education they opt to pursue in the future. Many students also require greater confidence when tackling certain subjects, particularly mathematics. This process, for example, can involve breaking down confusing notation or simplifying problems into logical steps.
