What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
It makes me happy when I see my students improve and gain more confidence in the work that they do. The sense of accomplishment that they feel when they go from being clueless to understanding something passes on to me as well. Also, it helps me reinforce the basics of the subject and helps improve my overall understanding of the concepts. It also helps me build my own self-confidence and communication skills.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have the ability to adapt myself to different students. Since everyone is different, I try to understand which method is the most suited to an individual and try to adapt to their needs.
Sometimes, we can forget some concepts; when this happens, I am not afraid to tell the student that I am not be 100% sure instead of guessing and potentially teaching the wrong concepts. In this case, I will tell that I will get back to them on that particular question next time and research it when the lesson ends.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
I believe it is important to understand the student's weaknesses and strengths before starting to teach them. I have come across a common problem with students, which is that they often jump straight into trying to solve a problem without fully understanding the theory/basics first. Hence, I try to first help them understand the basics then go through practice problems step-by-step, while explaining why they should do this. Then I let them attempt some questions by themselves, while I watch and correct any mistakes along the way (and explain the reasoning behind it).
