What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁
While my tutoring experience is limited, I love engaging with people and seeing them grow and learn. This is something I've done through both public speaking and radio presenting, and hearing feedback from people who comment about how I helped them understand something or taught them something completely new is always enjoyable.
My Strengths as Tutor 💪
I have excellent skills connecting with people and would be very good at keeping students engaged. I excel at English and Ancient History, and am very confident explaining topics of importance to students. I have also practiced editing essays and other written work through my volunteer position as a sub-editor for my university's online history journal. My work presenting on radio with Student Youth Network taught me both the importance of preparedness and how to think quickly and improvise if necessary.
Most important things I can do for a student 🏅
The most important thing a tutor can do for a student is talk to them. A tutor should directly ask the student what they are struggling with in class and what they need assistance with. The student should feel comfortable asking the tutor questions about schoolwork. This is important as a tutor provides a student with much more direct and focused time than a teacher in a full-sized classroom would. It is up to the tutor to formulate lesson plans based around the student's needs, and to adjust them accordingly should those needs shift.

Was able to identify some persuasive techniques, and upon closer inspection of the text noticed even more than her initial read-through. She could explain the effects of some well, however this required some prompting.
Adriana's paragraphs are still far too short. She doesn't expand on her ideas much, or elaborate on evidence. More evidence from the text, and better integration of this evidence, is needed.
Adriana was able to put together how meaning is created from persuasive techniques after some prompting.

Adriana struggled to find meaning created from the persuasive techniques. Her paragraphs are still very short and lack the substance needed to fully develop her ideas. More time spent planning her essays and considering her ideas is needed.

Yana is very good at explaining herself and coming up with well thought out analysis. She is able to develop arguments quickly, and her interpretation of the text was good. She uses evidence to explain her interpretation well.
Yana sometimes struggled to explain the deeper meaning behind the text. She could come up with good arguments, however she struggled sometimes to analyse the text in a meaningful way. She also struggled to find nuance in what the characters were saying, often taking their lines at face value. She needs to practice looking at the characters and the dialogue with a more critical lens, to see the intricacies in the text.

Adriana's speech was quite good, and she is very good at maintaining eye contact while giving the speech. She is also good at identifying the basic persuasive techniques used in argument analysis, such as rhetorical questions and anecdotes, however she struggles explaining why they are important.
Adriana struggles to expand on points when writing paragraphs. She must practice explaining why certain evidence is important. Adriana's argument analysis feels quite stilted, following a very rigid format with short sentences that don't fully flow into each other. Adriana did not let me know she had a presentation tomorrow and that her assessment of Green Book had been moved forward a week ahead. She needs to keep me updated on when she has assessments so that I can plan accordingly.
