Once the terms had been explained, Mia was able to categorise prime and composite numbers very easily. When she was unsure, she was able to complete simple division equations to determine the correct answer. We also begun looking at factors and multiples, which she also understood very easily. We only quickly touched on how to find the highest common factor, and lowest common multiple.

We will continue to work on finding factors and multiples in a faster manner, and begin looking at how to use them in our math to make solving problems easier. We touched on this briefly, and it seemed confusing to Mia, so this will be the main focus of our next session.

Adele understood the concepts of highest common factors and lowest common multiples relatively easily, and could identify the HCF or LCM for a set of numbers. We began looking at how to use these number sets, and she was beginning to grasp this, but we will continue to work on this in coming weeks.

Adele needed to be re-shown/reminded how to complete equations from the previous week, struggling to recall the steps, and making some errors when attempting to independently complete problems. We are also continuing to work on doing the math, and not just guessing what might be the correct answer. This will save Adele time when completing math problems, and increase her accuracy when responding to problems.

Mia has improved greatly on her understand of financial mathematics since our last session. She can now confidently solve most percentage questions involving 10%. She is also improving on her algebraic mathematics, e.g., find the missing number. She can do this for basic equations that follow a simple formula.

We are now moving our focus to finding percentages of larger or smaller numbers, e.g., 50%, 30%, 5% etc. This is proving a little more challenging, and will require more practice to concrete her knowledge. Mia also struggles when the algebraic formulas become more complex, or are not what she is expecting, e.g., the missing number is on the left hand side of the equation, or involves subtraction. We will also continue to work on this and improve her confidence in this regard.

Adele does relatively well with basic fraction equations, once it had been re-explained to her. She can add or multiply fractions with common denominators.

We are still working on taking the time to solve equations, as opposed to guessing them. We are really focusing on finding common multiples, and being able to recognise these without having to write them all down.
