My Strengths as Tutor
I am calm, patient and easy to get along with. I am also positive and enthusiastic in my approach. I am good at explaining concepts and breaking tasks/problems into smaller steps. I am flexible in my teaching methods and always willing to try a range of approaches as needed (e.g. visual props or analogies).
All of my students thus far have been highly motivated, so a potential challenge for me might be tutoring unmotivated students. I have also not had much experience tutoring very young students, so may need to learn approaches particularly relevant to them.
Most important things I can do for a student
In the first instance the tutor needs to help them understand the work at hand and equip them with the knowledge and skills that are expected in that subject.
The tutor should present the subject in an interesting way to engage the student and ensure the student experiences success to maintain their motivation. Over time, the student will then gain confidence.
It is also important to give students strategies to be more independent learners ongoing. You need to encourage them to work hard but more essentially to value and enjoy learning.
