What do I enjoy most about tutoring? 😁

I enjoy the interaction with students. Whenever I see a light bulb moment as a result of my explanations, I get an immense amount of satisfaction, knowing that by helping them in my areas of expertise, I can ensure that I have indeed helped them to understand concepts and allowed them to progress in their learning journey. I enjoy helping people in general, but when it is academic-related, it compounds the satisfaction since I can know that I have actually helped.

My Strengths as Tutor 💪

I think the main factor that would make me a great tutor is my level of patience. I am also good at adapting to the situation, which would be useful in tutoring, as different students have different learning styles, and I can therefore change the way and direction of approach when explaining a concept. For example, in the past, a student asked about factorisation, so I tried to explain it as how I have heard a teacher do it, but it doesn't seem to be working, so I changed my approach, realising that the issue is not that the student can't understand factorisation, but rather it's because he didn't have a good grasp of how to expand an equation. So I first explained how expansions work, before reversing that concept to explain factorisation, and it helped too. I also have a great personality for tutoring, I am outgoing enough that tutoring sessions won't be awkward, but also focussed enough that the lessons won't go off track.

Most important things I can do for a student 🏅

University of Melbourne, Bachelor of Commerce, 91.6 ATAR. I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to provide encouragement in their learning journey. I don't think tutoring would achieve much if the students are not confident in their own abilities. As a former student myself, I understand the harrowing feeling of disappointment in learning, and how this can negatively impact performance and therefore lowers scores. Knowing how to deal with setbacks and emotions in learning is important, and I can provide help by positive reinforcement and support to help the students get over the learning curve, allowing them to thrive.
