What do I enjoy most about tutoring? π
Tutoring is a job where you decide the direction of your role. There is no one looking over your shoulder and there is no one holding your hand. You are thrown out into the studentβs world, and you learn to adapt on the fly. This independence really does help develop my problem-solving, decision-making, and time management skills. Not to mention, the flexibility of tutoring means I can balance my other commitments if anything else in life comes up.
My Strengths as Tutor πͺ
- Connection to personalize the learning experience
- Problem Solving as there is not 1 size fits all approach
- Consistent mentorship and support
- Encourages independence as I do not want the student to rely on me at all times. Letting them know that they must put forth an effort to benefit from tutoring. Giving students strategies to be independent and more effective learners by having students look at how they think and learn, how they study, and how they manage their studies with the rest of their life
Most important things I can do for a student π
Tutors fill a different role than teachers and parents, and that puts them in a unique position to support students. Personal relationships are foundational to student success -- the more connected a student feels to his tutor, the more the tutor creates trust and respect, essential ingredients for students to learn well. When I listen and spend time building a relationship with my student I can truly personalize the learning experience, Incorporate connections to my student's interests, Teach to my student's strengths and minimize my weaknesses
