I believe that one of the most important things a tutor can do for a student, is to help them build confidence in their own academic abilities by supporting them in a way that reinforces their sense of self achievement. It is also important for a tutor to reinforce and support the student's classroom learning, beyond set homework and assignments where learning difficulties are encountered. This is where building a tutor-student rapport is important.
