I think a good tutor needs to first and foremost be able to understand the level of their student in order to help them improve. I also think that being able to re-explain mathematical theories and concepts in alternative ways is essential in helping students to fully comprehend the subject. I feel patience is key, but a good tutor also needs to…

Give them the skills and opportunity to do the best that they possibly can. I am very relatable to other students as I wasn't the smartest person in my classes. I find that because of this, its easier for the people I'm tutoring to relate to me and I think that encourages them to learn…

Firstly, as a former student I believe the most important thing a tutor can do is inspire and guide a student to learn on their own - as easy as it is to simply give away answers, actually getting someone to really put in a bit more effort is the challenging (and more rewarding) part. After that it just comes down to being able to connect with a…

Learning is a dynamic process. When a student reads a book and don't quite understand what the book is trying to say, the book can't help with that. The book is static. The student can however turn to a tutor and ask for a better or a different explenation.
A tutor can also help a student planning and organizing the learning. For instance, the…

A tutor should make a student want to learn, and remove any anxieties they experience in association with the subject. I believe that is the most important thing. Being able to connect with any student in an informal manner so that they are able to relax and devote more attention to what they are trying to learn. Also, finding creative ways to…

The most important thing that anyone can do for their student is to have them realise that everyone started where they are starting, nobody was born knowing anything, and just because you don't understand a concept now, doesn't mean you won't ever understand it. I consider that the most important thing that you can do for a student is help them to see the use of the things that they are learning and make them understand why it is important to learn these things. Helping them to develop love for the subject, and this way it will be easier for them to develop a love for study in general. I think that my…

I think for a tutor a combination of two things is the best, firstly giving the students confidence as I found that my tutor gave my confidence in my abilities that I previously had not experienced in some subjects which eventually led to my success. In my humble opinion, I do not believe a tutor's role should necessarily be teaching new content, rather clarifying and consolidating knowledge previously learnt in the classroom.
