To be supportive and try to put in the place of student to understand his/her problem. A tutor must guide the students using different approaches to relate the topics with his surroundings. I believe students enjoy learning from the surrounding, what they observe they learn. First of all, my strength is my knowledge which enables me to guide…

Besides knowledge and previous experience, my credentials make me a superlative candidate as a tutor. Good communication skills, clear…

I think the most important thing a tutor can do for a student is to first build their confidence and motivation, because learning becomes much easier when a student believes they can succeed. It is very important to adapt explanations to fit their learning style so that difficult concepts feel more approachable. Providing patience, encouragement,…

Gain confidence, I feel students are confused and not able to express their confusion. Take an approach where a tutor can balance the academic needs which are immediate but also develop critical thinking skills in the student which are long term benefits. I can connect with the students and I have been teaching since I was a teenager. I can teach…

I feel that above all else a tutor is there to help a student learn but is also required to help guide a student through whatever it may be. Most importantly, listen! A lot of students don't know where they are struggling but give it away with the questions they ask or the steps they take to try and solve problems. Have more than one method or way of explaining things. People have different learning styles and different past experience to attach new things onto. Being organised,…

Always go back to the basics, as many students hold themselves to ask questions they think of as "irrelevant" or "common sense", when in reality it's those questions the one's building real knowledge and solid foundations. That's why as a tutor the most important thing I can do is go beyond what they ask me or what their classes teach, as some…

Wanted to take this opportunity to say how great Jeremy is! My daughter was incredibly nervous about having a male tutor but after the first session and moving forward, she feels completely comfortable, at ease and really enjoys her tutoring sessions with Jeremy. He has a very positive attitude and is very kind and encouraging towards Maycee's learning journey and for that we thank you all.... especially Jeremy!

Inside Victoria ParkTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 8 student Ava revised Pythagoras' Theorem and practised solving right-angled triangle problems, then worked through trigonometry questions involving missing side lengths.

For Year 10, Jack focused on expanding and factorising algebraic expressions as well as identifying transformations of functions using DESMOS.

Meanwhile, Year 11 student Mia completed calculus work on optimisation problems and reviewed biology concepts like magnification and population density, making use of diagrams for visual understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 10 student often attempted to solve algebra and functions questions mentally, saying, "I can do this in my head," but skipped writing steps led to sign errors and confusion when rearranging equations.

In Year 12 Chemistry, a lack of thorough notes before assessments made it hard to recall details under pressure; as one tutor noted, incomplete plans "meant she had to memorise last-minute."

A Year 4 learner's messy written work in fractions obscured mistakes until feedback was given. In these moments, missed working or disorganised notes cost valuable marks and slowed improvement despite strong effort.

Recent Achievements

A tutor in Victoria Park noticed one high school student who previously struggled with chemistry problem-solving now sets out her plans clearly and completes simple identification tasks almost entirely on her own.

Another win came from a Year 11 student who, after several attempts, managed to get the structural formula right—showing real persistence compared to his earlier hesitation with complex diagrams.

In a younger session, Scarlett used to rush through subtraction but now backchecks each answer aloud and finishes her homework with little need for guidance, recently getting every worksheet question correct without assistance.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Victoria Park Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Ursula Frayne Catholic College.
