Firstly, a tutor should be patient because some students understand things slowly. Tutors should also be flexible because some students understand things after being taught using a different approach. I can make a topic interesting or intriguing to students so that they can learn the topic with better understanding and enthusiasm. I would like to…

Understanding their weaknesses and merits and let them guide in the best path is challenging, but according to me, a tutor can do that. Problem solving skills, understanding…

A tutor should make learning clear and achievable. They do this by spotting gaps, explaining concepts in simple terms, and providing structured practice that builds skills gradually. It’s important to focus on building confidence and study habits, not just solving one question. This helps the student become more independent. Finally, a tutor…

I believe that a good tutor should consider their student as their friend so that the child can feel comfortable sharing his/her problem. Moreover, a good tutor should teach their students independence to complete their work. The most important strength in order to be a successful teacher is connectivity with the Student. As a tutor, it is important to not just teach the questions but to teach the concept. This is vital as the ability to adapt to new questions and situations will not only help them with their studies but further in life. Learning math isn't about learning how to do the questions but about finding the correct approach to tackle questions, it builds…

Inside ViveashTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 4 Jazmine worked on reading both 12 and 24-hour time as well as strengthening her times tables recall.

For Year 8 Myra, the session focused on adding and subtracting decimals and tackling time notation questions in preparation for an upcoming test.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Ella reviewed surd conversion, addition, and subtraction—and practised using index laws through progressively more complex examples.

Recent Challenges

A Year 11 student arrived for test revision without any notes prepared, despite reminders; most of the session was spent searching for lost materials and re-reading definitions ("He has lost a lot of the notes that I gave him to review for his test").

In Year 8 maths, one student relied heavily on their notes for every question rather than building independent recall.

Another, in Year 5, often guessed answers quickly instead of processing questions—blurted responses meant she needed repeated redirection to engage with tasks properly.

During essay planning in Year 9 English, weak organization led to confusion over structure and missing key information under time pressure.

Recent Achievements

One Viveash tutor noticed a big shift in a Year 11 student's approach to algebra: after struggling with the laws of indices, he now confidently explains his reasoning aloud and asks for help as soon as he hits confusion—something he avoided before.

Another high schooler has started making her own cue cards for test revision after previously depending on class notes alone, showing new independence.

Meanwhile, in primary sessions, Jazmine—who was once terrified of division—used her times tables to split numbers into groups and recited the 4x table without hesitation by session's end.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Midland Public Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like La Salle College.
