Chemistry Tutor Wandin North, VIC
Helping people understand why learning is important to them. Kids can find it hard to see why what they're learning is important. I think a fundamental key is showing how the process of learning itself is the important aspect, rather than specifically the content. While the content is important to grasp, the process of regular work towards a goal,…

By making learning fun and relatible students can see the benefits of learning the content. This allows students to see the practical part of their learning and will be more engaged to learn something they can use now or later in life. I am a very patience person which is important when teaching because students need time to try and understand the…

Inside Wandin EastTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 10 student Codi revised circular functions in preparation for an upcoming exam and practised applying these to a variety of questions.

For Year 11, Erin worked through stationary points and explored their application to real-world context problems, also reviewing strategies for identifying key features on graphs.

Meanwhile, Year 12 student Tanya analysed political speeches to identify persuasive techniques and participated in practice debates to build skills in compare-and-contrast reasoning.

Recent Challenges

A Year 4 student struggled to complete homework tasks independently, often relying on guidance during sessions but finding it difficult to follow through alone—"she understood the assignment and was able to complete it on her own when we worked together."

In Year 8 English, a student's strong ideas were sometimes lost in wordy sentences, leading to unclear written communication.

At VCE level, one learner tended to review only familiar maths topics before tutoring rather than targeting challenging areas; this habit meant difficult concepts lingered unaddressed between sessions. When test time came, confidence faltered as a result.

Recent Achievements

A Wandin East tutor noticed Lizzie, a high school student, has moved from simply recalling details to offering her own nuanced analysis of texts—she now embeds quotes with purpose and confidently challenges ideas during discussions, which was a real shift from her earlier sessions.

Meanwhile, Daniel (Year 6) used to hesitate even when he knew his times tables but recently worked through multi-digit multiplication problems without help and now voices when he's stuck instead of guessing.

In another session, Maya managed to complete a division speed round in just two minutes after weeks of gradual improvement and then set herself a new challenge for next time.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Mt Evelyn Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Wandin Yallock Primary School.
