As mentioned above, it is extremely important for tutors to enjoy the content they are teaching. These attitudes are projected onto the willingness of students to engage with the subject. In addition to this, it is important for tutors to create and maintain relationships with their students that emulate trust and belief in their abilities. A…

I believe an english tutor should be a role model. Where they should embody not only the study skills they teach but also be honest, patient and a motivator, all whilst being professional. Through this a student can grow both academically and as a person allowing them to reap the rewards more deeply. A tutors role is to listen and provide their…

Although my goal is to see them be at the top of their class, it is more important to see improvements in their tutor lessons and use the knowledge I give them at school to refine their skills I am very easy going and I have a lot of patience. So I am good with kids that are struggling to understand. I use the 4 predominant learning styles:…

I think close support and motivation especially during their examinations is crucial. Making the student sharp by regular homework/assignments and making them fall in love with the subject and eventually learning are very important in my opinion. Identifying students strengths/passion and grooming them is another very imperative factor. I think…

Being available for your students is the most significant thing any tutor can do. Just being available alone is not the thing, you must also be able to communicate with them in order to understand where they are facing difficulties while learning. Understand their problems and provide the best solution for them to catch things better. A single…

Personally, an english tutor is someone outside of school who the student can rely on for their studies. Students show their vulnerability here so that tutor can build them to be strong at school. So a tutor can help the student be strong on their subjects and understand the subject with life. Understanding the student on what they need first and…

The best thing an english tutor can do for a student is listen to their needs, because it is evident in a classroom when a teacher doesn't know how to teach by the way they address the problem. Different people need the same issue explained in various ways, and so it is extremely important to have a great depth of understanding in order to…

A tutor has to be able to not only teach them content but able to support students on an emotional and cognitive level as they progress through a subject/s that they may not like or are uncomfortable with as they have had bad memories of the subject. As an english tutor, it's integral that we can offer a holistic, effective approach to tutoring in…

Listen to them, let them teach you about themselves, let them have a go and try things and trial and error. Build their confidence and show them that they can exprience success. Being patient with students allows them to work at a pace they feel comfortable with, this will allow them to find enjoyment…

Make their students feel comfortable (e.g; polite conversation), this thus allows the student to voice their concerns and allows the tutor to adjust what they are teaching and how they are doing so. Don’t rush the process and ensure the student is confident in areas of concern before brushing into another concept. I just recently graduated…

Inside WarillaTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Molly revised key financial maths concepts by working through pay conversion problems and explored the structure and function of the nervous system, including brain lobes.

Year 9 student Jessica focused on solving equations with fractions and strengthened her skills in simplifying algebraic expressions.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Sam tackled trigonometry—covering sine rule and finding areas of non-right-angled triangles—using worked examples to consolidate understanding before an upcoming assessment.

Recent Challenges

In Year 10, a recurring challenge was clear structuring of working and careful annotation—messy layouts meant "she frequently looks at the wrong information when referring back to worksheets or questions."

In Year 11 algebra, hesitation in attempting unfamiliar problems slowed progress; as one tutor noted, "she seemed reluctant to guess when unsure, often waiting for hints instead."

During financial maths tasks in Year 9, incomplete labelling of steps led to confusion on revision.

Exam stress in senior years sometimes caused skipped checks before submission, resulting in avoidable errors on content she otherwise knew well.

Recent Achievements

One Warilla tutor noticed a Year 11 student who previously hesitated to tackle worded finance problems now approaching them independently, even volunteering to explain her process out loud.

In Year 8 maths, another student who used to skip over mistakes during practice is now pausing to find and fix errors herself before moving on.

Meanwhile, a primary school student recently surprised her tutor by asking clarifying questions whenever something felt unclear—a big shift from staying quiet in earlier sessions—and then finished all ten probability questions without prompting.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Warilla Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Warilla Public School.
