In my view, It's not just about covering the day's lesson; it's about building their confidence, and offering unwavering support. It's about creating a positive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Furthermore, setting achievable goals and nurturing a passion for learning are also…

I think understanding each student is an important part to tutoring, and being able to motivate each student into learning for themselves should be the ultimate goal for any teacher. I've had some teachers that did that for me and I have them remembered always. I think students would like me. I'm easygoing and try to make the content appealing,…

Inspire them. Anyone can regurgitate textbook material in a different way. But only few can truly educate and inspire their students to become the very best version of themselves. Some of the strengths that I believe are quite necessary for a tutor other than leadership are resilience, and the ability to properly analyse a students learning…

Inside Waterford WestTutoring Sessions

Content Covered

Year 7 student Lucas focused on arithmetic with negative numbers and mastered order of operations through targeted problem sets.

For Year 8, Zane practiced solving equations involving algebra and explored Venn diagrams to understand set relationships visually.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Gurnoor covered key concepts around surds, rational and irrational numbers, as well as significant figures, revisiting recent test material for deeper understanding.

Recent Challenges

A Year 8 student did not complete assigned maths homework and, when asked, claimed it was done—yet division questions in the warm-up remained a challenge.

In Year 10 algebra, he's very good at solving questions but we're working on making sure he shows all the steps, as skipping working made it hard to catch sign errors.

For a senior student tackling logarithms, there was frequent checking of notes before each attempt rather than recalling rules independently.

Meanwhile, one primary student struggled to stay focused during online lessons; distraction meant less content covered and basic skills (like subtraction) remained shaky.

Recent Achievements

One Waterford West tutor recently noticed a big shift in a Year 9 student who, after struggling with algebraic working out, now talks through his problem-solving steps aloud—something he used to avoid—and shows clearer reasoning on paper.

Another high schooler began actively asking for help instead of guessing when stuck, which let him tackle mean and median questions with much less prompting than before.

For a younger student, mental maths practice is paying off: she's started adding and subtracting up to thousands using regrouping methods, needing fewer reminders and finishing her written problems more independently each session.

Local Spots for Tutoring

If you'd prefer not to have lessons at home, tutoring can also take place at a local library—such as Marsden Library—or at your child's school (with permission), like Waterford West State School.
